Student Interview M.Sc. Sustainability Management

Horston, what did you do before your studies? What was your daily task?

I worked as a Project Manager at an International Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Hong Kong. My major daily task was to organize and manage education and incubation programs that aimed at promoting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among secondary and university students.

Why did you decide for the M.Sc. Sustainability Management at RWTH Business School?

I was impressed by the well-designed curriculum that offers both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in business, technology and sustainability perspectives. In particular, I found the Analytics Lab and Technology & Innovation Lab to be exceptional, which enabled me to gain hands-on real experience in addressing sustainability challenges companies encounter. This experience would equip me to pursue my career in the sustainability field on a global scale.

What are your professional or personal goals with this degree?

For my professional goals, I aim to pursue my career as a Sustainability Manager, leading corporate sustainability initiatives and driving a positive social impact.

Beyond my professional knowledge, I would like to develop and strengthen my critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address sustainability challenges as my personal goals.

What has been your highlight in your studies so far?

Engaging with like-minded peers with diverse and interdisciplinary backgrounds has broadened my thinking perspectives through different lenses. Additionally, exploring real-world sustainable business practices through discussions on well-known business case studies has been a standout experience for me thus far.

Is there anything else you would like to share with future students?

“Without environmental sustainability, economic stability and social cohesion cannot be achieved.” — Phil Harding, archaeologist.

Sustainability, economics, and social factors are deeply interconnected. How do they interact with one another? This is an important question for us to explore.
