Our “Data Hearts” beating for the EIT Health Hackathon 2020
Merging the worlds of Big Data and Healthcare to gain valuable insights
EIT Health Hackathon
No surprise to find our students at such an exciting and challenging event: In July, the First Aachen EIT Health Hackathon (F.A.I.T.H.) organized by Tech Labs Aachen in collaboration with Uniklinik RWTH Aachen, Clinomic, digitalHub Aachen, MIT Critical Data and EIT Health took place in the Digital Church Aachen. The event was aimed not only at data scientists but also at health professionals to work with joint forces on a data set for predicting mortality, containing data from more than 90,000 patients in intensive care units with over 170 features such as vital laboratory values.
For two days, five teams with 25 participants from various study backgrounds like Medicine, Mechanical Engineering or Data Science worked on their prediction models – online or on-site. The winning team “Data Hearts” with two students from our master program M.Sc. Data Analytics and Decision Science achieved an awesome score.
In addition, Dr. Leo Anthony Celi from the MIT Laboratory for Computational Physiology and Dr. Arne Peine from Clinomic held interesting talks to allow the smoking heads of the participants to rest for a little while.
The event provided a great opportunity for our students to apply their expertise in practice and to exchange cross-disciplinary knowledge with the other students as well as gaining further insights into a vital topic during the talks.
