Innovation means much more than just the idea itself

Success requires making it a reality and sustainably establishing the concept on the market. Recognising a profitable business idea and driving it forward with the necessary dynamism requires creativity, strategic thinking and a feel for market trends. These characteristics can be summarised under the term ‘entrepreneurial mindset’ — the ability to transform a vision into a viable business model with the help of knowledge, strategy and drive.

You will learn how this works in practice on the M.Sc. in Management & Engineering in Technology, Innovation, Marketing & Entrepreneurship at the RWTH Business School. In the individual modules, you will acquire a comprehensive understanding of innovation processes and management decisions in the technology sector. By combining theory with practical teaching and through discussions with other experienced students, you will be given the ideal preparation to enable sustained growth in a company's ability to innovate or to take the step into self-employment.

Think and act like an entrepreneur

For budding entrepreneurs, two elective modules on the professional development programme in particular offer an exciting opportunity to establish a firm foundation for their start-up concept:

  1.  Start-up and Growth Management
In the Start-up and Growth Management module, you will learn how to set up and successfully scale your own company. From the development of a robust business plan to market entry and possible exit strategies, this module offers support for the entire entrepreneurial journey. The practical content promotes strategic thinking and strengthens the ability to make complex decisions in the start-up and growth phase.
  2. Entrepreneurial Finance & Venture Capital
One of the biggest hurdles for start-ups is financing. In the Entrepreneurial Finance & Venture Capital module, you will learn how to manage the financial requirements of your company throughout its life cycle. From the seed phase to subsequent growth financing, you will gain the skills required to negotiate professionally with potential investors. Through practical exercises and simulations, you will learn how to persuade investors, develop financing strategies and build sustainable partnerships.

Distinguishing genuine innovation from hype

The same rule applies to individual entrepreneurs and the innovation labs at large corporations: distinguishing genuine technical innovation from hype requires a combination of technical and business knowledge. In our degree programme, we combine the best of these two worlds: management and technology. As a business school attached to one of the largest technical universities in Germany, RWTH Aachen University, we have access to the latest findings from technology and natural sciences, and we develop business solutions based on real industry problems. The training is practice-orientated and prepares you for the real challenges of responsible positions.
